Dormancy and Maturity in the Bulbil of Lilium lancifolium
Roh Seung-Moon

Abstract
To study the dormancy and maturity in the bulbil of Lilium lancifolium, bulbils of various size at two maturity stages were collected in 1978. After giving an initial cold treatment at 6¡É (CD), scale leaf emergence data were recorded to determine the dormancy and its association with maturity. The harvested bulbs in 1979 were again forced after cold treatments to relate the level of dormancy and maturity present at the time of harvest in 1978 to the flowering responses in 1979 and 1980.
Scale leaf emergence was delayed by both immaturity and dormancy factor. Immaturity factor was, however, considered as a primary cause which delayed scale leaf emergence in immature bulbil and dormancy in mature bulbil.
Once the bulbil was developed into small bulb which be able to bloom, the level or stage of maturity and dormancy at the time of bulbil harvest did not influence any growth and flowering response. This result makes it possible to state that dormancy, which is mainly involved with shoot emergence, has no relationships with maturity, which is mainly characterized by flowering responses, once the bulb retains a minimum size of flowering capability.
